Auel is an American writer. She is best known for her Earth's Children books, a series of six novels set in prehistoric Europe that explores interactions of Cro-Magnon people with Neanderthals. The books are The Clan of the Cave Bear, The Valley of Horses, The Mammoth Hunters, The Plains of Passage, The Shelters of Stone, and The Land of Painted Caves. She has sold more than 45 million copies of her novels worldwide.
