Literary Birthday - 10 November - James Broughton

James Broughton was born 10 November 1913, and died 17 May 1999

Six Quotes

  1. It was as important to live poetically as to write poems.
  2. My earliest poems sing of the absolute necessity of allowing love to invade and pervade one’s life. That can make the miracle happen in reality. Try it.
  3. For me, prose walks, poetry dances.
  4. Everything has always been here one way or another. So it must know what it’s doing. And since I am part of this everything, a good part of me must be all right just the way it is, and the way it’s doing it.
  5. If you don’t fill your days with love, you are wasting your life.
  6. Trusting your individual uniqueness challenges you to lay yourself open.

Broughton was an American poet and poetic filmmaker. He was part of the San Francisco Renaissance, a precursor to the Beat poets.
